Remember how mad I was about moving here?
Yeah.
Sorry about that. Because this place, El Paso – aka the Craphole of the Earth, has turned out to be the very place I needed to be. For everything.Farmer’s markets year round. Parents who baby wear all the time. An Attachment Parenting moms group. Homeschooling networks. Gymboree. A rockin’ base with a new commissary. A great church. Cool, crisp mornings and mild afternoons (thank goodness it got there). Huge thunderstorms that shake our house and make Sam and I turn off all the lights and watch the sky flash in a scared delight. A home that took some work and ended up being the perfect place for us.
A writing job.
Oh? Did I not tell you?

You’re looking at El Paso Parent’s newest freelancer.
EPParent is an online magazine of sorts of all things parent and family in the El Paso/lower NM area. I actually found it thanks to a recommendation from my friend Sol on Facebook, she sent me the link before we moved here. It was a lifesaver. It has all the events and companies listed in the area, I found out about nearly everything we do just from them. Honestly, I don’t know what I would have done without their site.
Last week I met with their founders and accepted a freelancing position with them as the “crunchy” mom who blogs on all things family and natural. I’ll be writing on Wednesdays to start with, moving into more as we figure out my niche better. My job is to write on thing like cloth diapering, baby wearing, natural parenting, organic living, attend events related to family things, and interview companies in the area that are family oriented. All while working (mostly) from home.
It was probably the biggest head explosion I’d ever had.
I’m so excited. They are an amazing company and I am thrilled to be working with them.
So yeah. I’m a work at home mom now. BOOM.

Wow. You might be the first person who I’ve ever heard say anything nice about El Paso. The way you describe it almost makes me willing to live there…but no (not that I can talk all that much, I live in a city they built on top of a freaking swamp).
