“Oh, good, let’s talk about money!”
Don’t you adore her on Downton Abbey?
This weekend I put on FB and Twitter that I was opening up the blog to ads with Passionfruit. I’ve had ads on and off on here for a while now, the BlogHer one is steady and then several companies and small businesses as I’ve worked with them over the months.
But because Passionfruit is different (and bloggers are welcome to advertise – you can see some have already on here), I wanted to explain a bit about it and where the money I make is going.
If you click on my PR and Advertise page, you’ll see my stats and ad prices/sizes. You simply click on an ad size you’re interested in, and Passionfruit leads you through uploading and payment, sends me a message saying there is an ad waiting for approval, and you’re done! I set them at 30 days from the time they go up, and each one comes with a sponsor highlight post at the end of each current month. (Ads purchased this month get a post at the end of this month.)
Why am I doing this? Adoption. Plain and simple. It’s expensive, we will have a lot of surprise expenses over the next year or two, and every bit of money I earn on here, Babble, Military Family, ads, review posts, campaigns, etc – I put into a savings set aside for all the payments we will make. I’m not going to turn into a review blog or have 3 posts a week be “OMG THIS PRODUCT IS AMAZING!” – because you all know that isn’t my deal on here, but if something fits and is fun and can work on here – I’ll take it.
Each blogger, small business, handmade company, or big company that buys an ad has a part in bringing our child home to us. My goal isn’t to live off our income ::snort:: but simply make it easier on us in the months to come as our adoption journey unfolds.
So there we go. We talked about money on the blog and no one had a heart attack.
Maybe just Maggie Smith.

That might have been my favorite line from Downton Abbey.
