Mom Purse with a Working Upgrade: Fashion Editor by Thirty-One

I have a love/hate relationship with purses. I’ve never been a purse kind of girl, but it wasn’t because I didn’t like them or see the need. It was because I needed to have the perfect purse. Every time. So this led to spending hours shopping and leaving frustrated that all the ideal purses were $$$ when I could just be a little more bohemian and buy a cloth one for $15.

Which I did. Several times. And always hated them.

For the past few months, I’ve been using the Fashion Editor from Thirty-One – part of their new Jewell line. Because I have southern friends, I’ve heard about Thirty-One for years ;) but I haven’t ever owned a product of theirs. The description stated, “perfect for work, with a zippered laptop pocket” and I was sold.

I carry my laptop with me several days a week to work after therapy/when Bella has her classes and had been starting to think I needed a purse that was meant to carry one – with padding. I had the world’s ugliest laptop bag I’ve been using for two years, but thankfully one of the cats finally barfed on it and freed me from the feeling that I had to keep taking it with me.

The Fashion Editor is this purse that hits every mark I have in my head for a purse. Like someone who makes a list for a potential spouse, I have a purse list.

  1. Good sized
  2. Neutral color
  3. No slip straps
  4. Several pockets (but not too many)
  5. Place for a cell phone
  6. Somewhere to clip my keys

I wanted to be able to fit my giant glass water bottle, a Macbook Air, and whatever animal Bella insisted she needed until we got to where we were going. Plus all my other stuff.

I love how lightweight this bag is, even when crammed full of stuff. I also love that my laptop sits in it securely, and the cell phone pocket on the outside has a little magnetic clasp. Now that I see the quality of their bags, I find myself looking at the women in my food co-op who bring their cute Thirty-One totes with them every week, and thinking how handy that would be too.

I can say that not only am I a big fan of their products now, but also what they stand for. Thirty-One Gives lists ways they are involved in giving back through partners like:

Interested in purchasing a Fashion Editor bag or seeing what else Thirty-One has to offer? Find a consultant (or ask your friends- more than likely someone is one!) and check out their entire Jewell line as well.

I was not paid for this review but did receive the Thirty-One Fashion Editor for review. Thank you to Thirty-One!

One Wipe Wonder for the Mess-Makers

This post is sponsored by Huggies but all opinions and messes are my own. Huggies just makes the mess part easier to clean up.

Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean

Lately we’ve taken all kinds of trips with Bella – short and much longer. We are headed out next week to California for my grandma’s 90th birthday – just Bella and I. On these trips, I have become pretty packing savvy. I know what we need on hand, what we can pack away, and what Bella can help carry in her suitcase and backpack.

Things That Make Me Happy

I started this post a couple of days ago, then Bella and I got really sick. So it got pushed to the side and now I’m on the couch with her as she reads books and I write. It’s nice to be back and have a small break. With Sam gone, handling it all and the sickness is a lot.

This post is about things that I love, things that make me happy, stuff I’ve wanted to share with you. And at the end there is a “just for giggles” gif that Bella and I screamed with laughter at.

First up:

Weight. Ah the posts I’ve written about this in the past 4 years. My weight does not make me happy, but then ::mumbles:: pounds lighter I wasn’t happy either so there you have it.  I gave myself about 6 months after Kaden passed away to grieve and be postpartum (and eat my feelings) and then started Weight Watchers. I’ve done it before with great results, so I was confident it would work again.

Here’s the thing. Food is a pretty big comfort for me. So watching what I ate and being hungry led to me feeling more stressed and sad. I have restarted it 3 times since February and lost nothing because I can’t stick to it this time. I hate exercising and I don’t have time and I’m hungry and eating makes me happy and all that jazz. Then I try on my clothes and I get even sadder. So then I go nap because I’m exhausted. All the fails.

I finally jumped into a program that had been sitting in my email as an invite for a few weeks. The 10 Week Body Challenge.

Game Changer: Jena™ Monitor by Levana for the Sleep Resistant Child

Quiet time.

Nap time.

Just stay in your room for 45 minutes so I can have some silence time.

A few months ago Sam and I considered purchasing a video monitor for Bella’s room. I’ve written on here and Babble before about Bella’s sleeping habits. She’s a good sleeper – when she gets to sleep. There are nights when we can still hear her bouncing around and playing in there at 10pm, and we’ve put her to bed at 8.

When the Jena™  monitor by Levana came in the mail, I was really curious to see if it would make a difference. I’m able to see and hear her in the room, and also talk to her through the monitor.

Which presented all kinds of fun for us.

Lily Jade: The Everything Designer Bag

When Bella and I go somewhere, we take a lot of stuff with us. Camera, iPad, face and hand wipes, her toys, little first aid kits, a book or two, and a host of snacks. Which is why I’m a huge fan of big purses. Often they just don’t have enough pockets, so everything ends up in a heap at the bottom while I sort and sift and mumble bad words.

I needed more pockets and more space – but a long lasting purse. Something cute.

Then I discovered the designer diaper bag Lily Jade, which is so much more than your average diaper bag.

Lily Jade Bag Review

I love that I can throw everything in this bag and go, but it’s stylish enough I never feel like I’m lugging around the world inside. Even if I am.
